Karagiozis Rigoletto


A production of the Alternative Stage of the Greek National Opera starring the most famous and beloved hunchbacked jester of shadow theatre, Karagiozis, who is called upon to carry out a… lyrical mission: to perform opera’s most famous hunchback, Rigoletto! With a script by the multi-talented comedian, director, and librettist Dimitris Dimopoulos and the experienced shadow puppeteer Alexandros Melissinos, Karagiozis finds himself at the lyric theatre established by the Vizier’s daughter in the Seraglio, learning with humour and disarming innocence everything required to stage an opera.

Traditional shadow theatre with excerpts from Giuseppe Verdi’s masterpiece opera Rigoletto, performed in Greek by three opera singers, humorously unfolds all the backstage secrets of a lyric theatre, spreading knowledge and plenty of laughter… with a twist!
