Ravel UNSEEN

In his new work, Unseen, Antonis Foniadakis focuses on Ravel’s piano compositions which, in his view, are imbued with a sense of the composer’s loneliness and introspection. “Although his works are often celebrated for their technical mastery, impressionistic textures, and rich colours, there is something deeper hiding beneath the surface: a subtle sense of detachment and emotional complexity that can be linked to feelings of isolation,” says Foniadakis, diving into the composer’s universe.

“In Unseen, I draw inspiration from this silent, introspective side of Ravel. Through movement and dance, I want to penetrate his complex emotional landscape, as well as his ability to convey deeply personal feelings and create a sense of distance and reflection. Loneliness, as Ravel perceived it and as I have experienced it myself, resonates through this performance, inviting the audience to feel the vulnerability hidden behind every melody.”
