Places with history and great restaurant legends: Despina Mavromati of Zythos Dore, Ismini Tornivouka of Olympos Naoussa, Nikos Nyfoudis of Tiffany’s x 1905, and Dina Tertsi of Miami, command gastronomic landmarks that are not to be taken lightly, as within their walls, from the last century until today, the brightest moments of Thessaloniki’s urban cuisine have been and continue to be written. Alongside them, chefs Dimitris Tasioulas, Sofia Teftsi, Prodromos Asimakis, and, of course, Despina Mavromati, will reveal the unique culinary secrets that contributed to making their restaurants iconic, as well as the risk, passion, knowledge, dedication, and entrepreneurial insight required to ensure that the legend does not lose its magic. Joining them are Charisia Vlachou, Professor of Gastronomic Tourism and Agri-food at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and Angelos Vassos, publisher and editor of Citymag magazine, who will talk about the utmost importance of a city’s ability to preserve through time the places where history dined at their tables. The event will be presented and moderated by Kostas Gkantsios, a journalist specialized in culinary topics from biscotto.gr. Also present is the La Chef Levi school.”

The Zaman Food Stories series is a journey into what we call the special, unique, and unsurpassed flavors of Thessaloniki: from the dishes and stories of the Byzantine past to today’s cosmopolitan couvert, with the city now a gastronomic destination; from Jewish cookbooks and Armenian and refugee dishes of the past to the international menus of World War I, when other global cuisines arrived and enriched the existing flavors of Thessaloniki.
Get ready for five delicious, educational, and rich literary gourmet afternoons, where renowned chefs, foodie journalists, bloggers, restaurateurs, and experts in everything related to the city’s gastronomy will present a variety of stories centered on Thessaloniki.
