A Few Words About the Book: What can one do in 90 seconds? It might seem like a short amount of time, but it can be quite significant. In this brief period, a person can step out into the street and follow a stranger, observing them closely and later ask themselves: Am I ready to marry the crowd? To become one with it? To observe the flight of a fly sensing danger and trying to escape? How does this tiny insect manage while I’m overthinking? To reflect on how many photographs taken by strangers feature them unknowingly as a background passerby. In other words, to grasp how many human stories they are a trivial extra in. To watch other drivers in adjacent lanes on a busy road. What does each driver think of the others? To ponder what would happen if the Earth stopped rotating around itself, as we do around our own axis. To get up at night and open the refrigerator door repeatedly. To try to see the darkness inside the appliance before the light comes on. And then, to lie back down, opening their own inner door. What will they see? Through 58 imaginative and reflective texts, Sakis Serefas offers 58 provocative ways to explore oneself and the world around us—each time, in 90 seconds.
