The three highly-awarded and well-traveled chefs of the city, Apostolos Altanis (Executive Chef at the Hyatt Regency), Sotiris Evangelou (Executive Chef at the Macedonia Palace), and Dimitris Tsananas (Executive Chef at The Met Hotel), as Chef Ambassadors during their missions domestically or abroad, introduce us to the flavors of Thessaloniki. How do we define these flavors? What are the signature dishes? Can we today speak of a distinct gastronomic scene in Thessaloniki?
Along with them, Giannis Papadimitriou, a journalist from Gastronomos of Kathimerini who has been following the kitchens and new culinary leaders of the city for years, reviews the myths and accolades written about the gastronomy of Thessaloniki, the only Greek city included in UNESCO’s Creative Cities of Gastronomy Network.
The event will be presented and moderated by Kostas Giantsios, a journalist specialized in culinary matters from Biscotto.gr. Dishes and delicacies will be cooked and offered live under the supervision of the La Chef Levi school.

Five thematic live talks in front of an audience, dedicated to the cuisine of Thessaloniki through the centuries, hosted at the transformed historic market – the Modiano food market.

The Zaman Food Stories series is a journey into what we call the special, unique, and unsurpassed flavors of Thessaloniki: from the dishes and stories of the Byzantine past to today’s cosmopolitan couvert, with the city now a gastronomic destination; from Jewish cookbooks and Armenian and refugee dishes of the past to the international menus of World War I, when other global cuisines arrived and enriched the existing flavors of Thessaloniki.
Get ready for five delicious, educational, and rich literary gourmet afternoons, where renowned chefs, foodie journalists, bloggers, restaurateurs, and experts in everything related to the city’s gastronomy will present a variety of stories centered on Thessaloniki.
Zaman Food Stories, beyond the tales of the years and ages and the adventures of flavor in Thessaloniki through the centuries, promises… come and enjoy a tasty time on September 24, October 1, October 8, October 15, and October 22 at Modiano Market.
