150th anniversary of Arnold Schönberg’s birth – Aron Quartet & Christos Marantos

Concert by the Aron Quartet from Austria in collaboration with the distinguished Greek pianist Christos Marantos, marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of the great pioneer of twelve-tone technique, Arnold Schönberg, one of the most influential composers of the 20th century, who bequeathed to humanity a new way of thinking. Schönberg opened new paths in both aesthetic and mathematical thought at the core of musicological science. The Aron Quartet is one of the most renowned rising quartets in Europe, with its musicians regularly collaborating with artists from the Alban Berg Quartet and specializing in 20th-century repertoire. Residents of Thessaloniki will have the opportunity to attend a program that includes chamber music for piano, string quartet, and narrator, featuring works that are rarely performed. Get ready for “Ode to Napoleon Bonaparte” op. 41, based on the text by Lord Byron, Schönberg’s march for piano and quartet “Die Eiserne Brigade”, which is a humorous depiction of the composer’s military service, the piano quartet in A minor by Gustav Mahler, and the piano quintet by Anton Webern—works that together create a comprehensive picture of the era of Arnold Schönberg.
