BLACK ASPHALT

VICTOR GRILLOT, FRANCE
24′ 39”

In the darkness of a never-ending night, Ayden and Léo, a couple driving in a car, engage in a role-playing game as driver and hitchhiker. What begins as a playful exercise gradually turns into a space where racial prejudices emerge. Ayden slowly becomes aware of these underlying issues and tries to explain them to Léo, turning their journey into a heartbreaking emotional exploration.

Director Biography

I grew up in Burgundy, a land devoid of mountains or distinctive landscapes—an open canvas where imagination knows no bounds. That is its beauty. For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to invent stories. That passion led me to pursue a degree in film studies, followed by a master’s in film production.

During my years as a student, I directed two short films: 16.4 and Sur le fil de nos latitudes, both driven by social and societal themes. After meeting Nicolas Bellenchombre, who gave me my first acting experience in the feature film La sirène à barbe, we are now in post-production on my debut feature film, Volcan—a queer, fantastical period piece.

Queer and social issues are at the heart of my filmmaking; they also form the backbone of Noir macadam.
