OLYMPION, ARISTOTELOUS SQUARE 10The Tiger Lillies were fomed in 1989 by Martyn Jacques, their singer, composer, leader and driving force. With their distinctive falsetto voice and a torrent of emotions that overflow as soon as they start singing, the band is coming to Thessaloniki to perform songs from their long career, as well as new tracks from their brand-new album, Lessons in Nihilism. Accompanied by magical visuals and unique lighting that will add elements of an eerie and mystical ritual to the acoustic experience, the fine blend of pre-war Berlin cabaret, anarchic punk opera and gypsy style, reminiscent of the sounds of Kurt Weil and Jacques Brel, is expected to transform the Olympion Theater into an utterly timeless heterotopia. Moments of deep sorrow, the subtle yet sharp irony, the socio-political commentary and the constant allure of Martyn and his band are just a few of the elements that make them unique. Joining Martyn on the Olympion stage will be bassist Adrian Stout, who has been with him for 30 years, and drummer Budi Butenop, the most recent member of the group. Over their extensive career, the Tiger Lillies have recorded more than 40 albums and performed on all continents. The directorial supervision of their performance in Thessaloniki will be undertaken by filmmaker Grigoris Apostolopoulos.
