Kim Allamand, Switzerland

Late summer heats up the city where people search for their own form of love.

Director Biography – Kim Allamand

Kim Allamand was born in Lucerne, Switzerland.
He holds a master’s degree in film directing from Zurich University of the Arts. His 2022 fiction short film HEART FRUIT had its world premiere in Locarno, its international premiere in San Sebastian and was part of the Future Frames program in Karlovy Vary in 2023. HEART FRUIT won, among others, the German Film Critics Award at Filmfest Dresden. His 2019 fiction short film TERMINAL had its world premiere at Locarno and won the Best Swiss Newcomer Award & the Youth Jury Award. Followed by numerous screenings and awards at festivals such as, Zinebi Bibao, Dokufest Prizren, Winthurer Kurzfilmtage and an online premiere on shortsoftheweek. Currently he is writing with Michael Karrer on his first feature film project, funded by the Zurich Film Foundation. Works and lives in Zurich.

ATLANTIS

Zoé Pelchat, Jean-François Sauvé, Canada

During an idyllic family vacation by the sea, Marie, the matriarch, develops an irrepressible urge to escape. As days go by and the languor of the vacation envelops them, her relatives feel a growing threat weighing on their clan. To the sound of the waves crashing on the shore, Atlantis opens a window into the final moments of a family on the brink.

Director Biography – Quentin Moll-Van Roye

Jean-François Sauvé : “Trained in television at UQAM, Jean-François Sauvé has led an eclectic career as a director and photographer for the past 10 years, following his instincts.
After graduating, Jean-François began directing music videos and it was a real revelation. His moody and poetic aesthetic, his deep understanding of music and his editing skills make him an ally of the most interesting musicians in Quebec. JF has over 30 music videos to his credit (Safia Nolin, Dead Obies, Isabelle Boulay, Brown Family, Sofia Bel, Greenland, etc.) and has brought dozens of artistic and commercial photo campaigns to life. His powerful photographs for the Espace Go theater have graced the streets of Montreal for three years.
In 2019, he directed his first short fiction film, Chez les heureux de ce monde, which was selected at the FNC, Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma and REGARD. Atlantis is his first institutionally supported film, and by far his most personal. ”

Zoé Pelchat : “After studying communications at Concordia and film studies at L’inis, Zoé Pelchat began her career in the world of music videos and then devoted herself fully to fiction and advertising.

It is with her web series “Dominos” (2018-2020), broadcast on TV5/Unis.tv, that she experienced her first success. The two seasons travel around the world and win several awards, including the trophy for Best Digital Series at Canneseries. Zoé continued her career with a first short film, “Lune” (2020), presented in competition at the prestigious Clermont-Ferrand festival, then selected in some forty international festivals. The film won five awards and numerous mentions for the touching performance of its lead actress, Joanie Martel.

Zoé is currently developing her first feature film, Douce Prière. Alongside author Edith Kabuya, she is working on Déesses, a first television series. She is also working on two short films financed by the CALQ and SODEC, Atlantis and Gaby les collines. Her works all have her very personal signature: sharp dialogues, an intoxicating visual universe and an undeniable love for humans. ”

In order to save her sister from the war in Ukraine, Alona must pay security deposit to the Israeli authorities. She reaches for Renée, a demented past actress of whom she takes care, and asks her for the money. The unexpected response from Renée shakes their close relationship, while their love for each other is being put to the test.

Annoa Verbruggen, Belgium

One night, Maurice wanders in the street, today is the day he has chosen to kill himself. However, he meets a strange little girl. This encounter will lead him into a waltz of hope between life and death.

Director Biography – Annoa Verbruggen

Annoa Verbruggen was born in Brussels. Graduated as an editor and scriptwriter from IAD in 2019. She is the editor of the short film Souvenirs de la lune (Memories of the Moon) which won a double award at the 40th edition of BIFFF. She is directing Mauvais Ange (Fallen Angel) as a result of a feeling of helplessness that was exacerbated during the lockdown. In parallel to her work as an editor and director, she is pursuing studies in social ecology. She wishes to participate in making the film industry eco-responsible.

Uriya Hertz, Israel

Elisha travels to visit Hillel, who has established a unique cult in the heart of the desert. It soon becomes clear that the two share a common past from which they cannot escape.

 

Director Biography – Uriya Hertz

Born in 1990, in Jerusalem. Graduated with honors from the Sam Spiegel Film School in Jerusalem. Hertz is currently working on his first feature film, “The Rabbi”, which participated in the Sam Spiegel International Film Lab (2019) and was awarded a development grant by the Israel Film Fund. His previous short films won prizes and participated in many film festivals around the world, including Shanghai, Raindance, Sarajevo, Camerimage and more.

Evgeny Nikolaev, Russian Federation

After moving to a new house, the Hero meets an unknown girl-neighbor and immediately becomes a witness of inexplicable events. Trying to understand the mystical events, the Hero enters into a confrontation with the girl’s father, who keeps a shocking secret.

 

 

Director Biography – Evgeny Nikolaev

Born in 1995 in the village of Myandigi. In 2017, he graduated from the Arctic State Institute of Culture and Arts as a director and producer of cultural and leisure programs. For five years he worked as a director of the Amginsky Folk Theater, and also worked in many projects such as: Scarecrow, Illegal, Songs of Summer, Eder Saas, Almost like everyone else, as a second director, assistant director and actor, director of photography. Lives and works in the village of Amga.

Frederic Zeimet, Luxembourg

Lonely and abandoned by her father and society, Emma, eleven years, throws herself body and soul into a lost cause.

 

 

Director Biography – Frederic Zeimet

Frédéric Zeimet is a Luxembourgish-born screenwriter and director.
He is a European Short Pitch, Torino Filmlab and European TV Lab Alumni.

Diagnosed with dyslexia from an early age on, Frédéric Zeimet has always had trouble expressing himself… For a long time, he found refuge in mathematics before he discovered the power of pictures and his need to tell stories.

After studying History of Art and Archeology, Frederic Zeimet has been mentored by Luc Dardenne (the multi-awarded Belgian director) during his screenwriting studies.
During his first years as a screenwriter, Frederic was awarded as best junior screenwriter in France, first time for a foreigner and was selected two times to the Screenwriters’ White Night at Cannes Film Festival.

He recently took his first step as a director. His first short-film “Cowboy” has been selected to over 20 festivals around the world, being awarded at Festivals like Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival.
He wrote, directed and produced the first Luxembourgish Web-series W. on a small budget. The six episodes were awarded around the world with Best Short Drama at Stareable Web Fest, Gold Award for Best International Series at DC Webfest or Best Screenplay at Die Seriale, at T.O. Webfest. It finished in second place at the Web Series World Cup 2020.
