“Why do we (not) have children?” Prospective parents, a young mother, a midwife, a journalist, a sociologist, a neuroscientist and a youtuber-activist against childbirth take a stand on the sexiest existential question of all. A documentary-theater play about the complicated relationship between our love life and our reproductive ability, using interviews statistics, personal confessionals, scientific studies, confidentiality and humor.

In Europe of the last decades, fewer and fewer people give birth to fewer and fewer children. The director Dimitris Mpampilis and four specialists on this topic wonder: What do the numbers show? Have people stopped having sex? Is it possible that more and more people refrain from having children by choice? How are social constructs connected to biological impulses? And if we do have a “population deficit” why are those who relocate in search of a better life persecuted?

The creative team of APARAMILLON the concepts and issues of ‘low birth rate’, ‘overpopulation’ motherhood as a conscious choice, pregnancy termination, prenatal testing, welfare state policies, sperm banks and dating apps.
