BRUTALIA, Days of Labor

Manolis Mavris, Greece

Perfectly identical girls in military uniforms, work day and night. A matriarchal and oligarchic society. What would happen if we replaced bees with humans? Anna observes the universe of her hive. Not being able to consent to the violence that surrounds her, she will have to make a radical decision.

The short film “Brutalia, Days Of Labour” directed by Manolis Mavris won the Canal+ film prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

Morin Khuur – The Horsehead Fiddle

Joshua Sternlicht, USA

A Mongolian nomadic community contends with climate change as modernity and tradition clash. The lure of city life and illness of a beloved horse leads childhood friends onto divergent paths.

Spyros Maltezos, Greece

How do you find inspiration? Where does it come from and where does it end? Stardust is a short, philosophical film that wants to imitate the moment of inspiration, without end, without beginning. An actress is giving an interview for the promotion of a movie that is going to be released in movie theatres. Her answers are converted into an inner – existential search through cinema. How have memories been imprinted on humanity? In every decade, technology has created through cinema the image that our collective memory has of each era. Stardust is a cassette-diary on an interstellar journey of some people who in one corner of the universe realized they existed.

Lune / Moon

Zoé Pelchat, Canada

Babz Dubreuil, a lonely ex-convict, works as a cook in a brunch restaurant. Under the encouragements of a colleague, she finds the courage to ask an attractive customer on a date. It might be the beginning of redemption.

A Truly shared Love

Émilie Brout / Maxime Marion, France

“A Truly Shared Love” is a tragedy, and capitalism its curse. Emilie Brout & Maxime Marion show their true love story, surrounded by their cat and connected companions in their own domestic environment. Using the codes of commercial imagery of stock videos, they play with the normative and idealized representations of their genre, class and figure of artist as a model of the start-up nation that are usually conveyed there.

Is there an alternative?

The Criminals

Serhat Karaaslan, Turkey

I have always found that hotel rooms lend themselves to cinematography. They provoke curiosity as well as the imagination. One cannot help but wonder what could have happened in them. They are places of intimacy and, by definition, a limit that society, in principle, has no right to cross. However, the whole aim of an authoritarian regime is to control even this last space of individual freedom.

Andigoni Bitsikokou, Greece

Dimitris wants to break-up with his girlfriend but the quarantine gets in his way.

Brother & Sister

Coralie Lavergne, France

When Edmée returns home after a 10 years absence, her brother doesn’t want her back home.
