MUNICIPAL ART GALLERY / CASA BIANCANikolaos Gyzis, the great painter, engraver, and designer of the 19th century is an important chapter of Greek art both for Greece and for the history of art. The leading artist left behind a rich legacy, part of which is housed in the listed building of Casa Bianca, as a permanent collection of the Municipal Art Gallery of Thessaloniki which hosts 627 of his works.
This year, on the occasion of the 120th anniversary since the death of the great creator, a large anniversary exhibition is organized at the Municipal Art Gallery, including the artist’s works from various parts of our country offered by organizations and private collections.
The public will have the opportunity to enjoy top moments of his artistic work such as: “The Secret School”, “The Vow”, “The Orphans”, “Portrait of Georgios Nazos”, “Margarita Gyzi”, “The Lantern”, “Centaur and Amor”, “The Poet at the Source”, “The Pastrymaker”, “Gratitude lays a wreath on the altar of Immortality”, etc.
Given that this year marks the completion of 200 years since the Greek revolution, the fact that the Municipal Art Gallery hosts the painting “The Secret School” bears a symbolism of high importance.
